COMPETITION RULES & INFORMATION
Please submit ONE check for all competition entries. Make check payable to: Dance 2 The Max
Competing dancers may enter as many categories as they wish, but they must not compete against themselves. Numbers entered in the same category must have a 50% change in participants.
No teachers or professional dancers may perform with students unless they are entered in the Pro/Am division.
Dancers may compete in more than one city. However, if a number wins a Super Star, five, four or three star in one regional city, that same number may not compete in another regional city.
No tap sounds on recordings.
No dangerous props (i.e., swords, fire, etc.).
Smoking is not permitted in the competition area.
Dance2theMax and the hosting venue are not responsible for personal injury or property loss.
All competition participants grant permission to Dance2theMax Talent Competition to use their photographs or videos to promote its events.
No use of live animals.
Routines must be appropriate for family viewing. Point deductions or disqualification could result if judges find a number and/or costume inappropriate.
No scenery.
PROPS: General props are permitted. (There are limitations as to how large the props can be.) Ceiling height can vary in each venue. Please check with the competition office if you have concerns with the size of a prop.
Please remember that at the competition, D2M has no storage space for props.
IMPORTANT: The placement of props must be completed within 2 minutes. Deductions will occur if overtime unless certain circumstances warrant a reasonable additional time as a result of the location of the stage or venue conditions.

Routines containing more than three (3) gymnastic/acro passes must be entered in the open category. A five-point (-5) deduction per judge will be taken for numbers containing more than three (3) passes in a dance, and those numbers will be moved to the appropriate category. General lifts are permitted.
IMPORTANT: Competing dancers must perform in their scheduled order unless permission is given for costume changes. Any studio that delays the show due to rehearsing their number(s) will be penalized by having points deducted from their total score. Unnecessary holding of numbers may result in disqualification.
ELITE DANCER TITLE PROGRAM *
(MINI, JUNIOR, TEEN & SENIOR DIVISIONS ONLY)
The top 5 highest scoring solos in each of the Mini, Junior, Teen, and Senior age divisions will be awarded the ELITE DANCER title at each Dance2theMax regional city. Winners will be eligible to compete at the FINAL SHOWDOWN in Las Vegas for the National Title. This program is one of the most exciting facets of the FINAL SHOWDOWN! At the FINAL SHOWDOWN in Las Vegas, all of the regional Elite Dancer titlists from around the country will be scored on their solo and a ballet & jazz audition. (Elite Dancer Titles are awarded at both Dance2theMax and West Coast Dance Explosion). IMPORTANT: At Dance2theMax, you must be entered in the Solo/Elite Dancer Title Competition to be in the running for title. (Not the regular Solo Competition) Starz & Pro/Am divisions not eligible for Elite Dancer Title.
Elite Dancer Regional Title Awards
Each regional Elite Dancer title recipient will receive an award plaque and free tuition for our 3-day workshop at THE FINAL SHOWDOWN in Las Vegas. (June 30-July 6, 2012). They will also perform in a production number choreographed by the West Coast Dance Explosion faculty at the FINAL SHOWDOWN GALA with a special guest recording artist. In the past we have had performers such as The Pointer Sisters, Patti LaBelle, Deborah Cox, Linda Eder and Martha Wash. In 2011 the Elite Dancers performed with the pop music icon- Taylor Dayne!
TIME LIMIT
Solo - two minutes and forty-five seconds max (2:45)
Solo/Elite Dancer Title - two minutes and forty-five seconds max (2:45)
Duo/Trio—two minutes and forty-five seconds max (2:45)
Small Group—three minutes max (3:00)
Large Group—four minutes max (4:00)
Line—five minutes max (5:00)
Production—six minutes max (6:00)
Extended Time Production–eight minutes max (8:00)
One point (-1) deduction for each second over the time limit.
Time limitations will be strictly enforced.
MUSIC REQUIREMENTS
Teachers will be given special instructions so that they may upload competition music to the D2M server. In addition to uploading your music - you must turn in (1) one professional quality CD for EACH number at the competition. *Only one number on each CD. No other music on CD. No ipods will be accepted. If you do not upload your music, (2) two CD’s of each number must be presented at the competition (one will be used as a back-up). All CDs must be submitted one hour prior to performance to the registration desk.
COMPETITION AGE DIVISIONS
STARZ DIVISION—Ages 5 to 6 (avg age)
MINI DIVISION—Ages 7 to 9 (avg age)
JUNIOR DIVISION—Ages 10 to 12 (avg age)
TEEN DIVISION—Ages 13 to 15 (avg age)
SENIOR DIVISION—Ages 16 to 18 (avg age)
PRO-AM*—Ages 19 and up (avg age)
*Teachers and professionals are eligible to compete in Pro-Am division only.
Pro-Am contestants are not eligible for overall high score or D2M SHOWDOWN.
To reach the average age, add all ages together and divide by the number of dancers in the entry. All ages are as of JANUARY 1, 2012. When averaging ages, make sure to drop the decimal point. Names, ages, and birth dates of all contestants must appear on the official entry form or it will not be accepted.
IMPORTANT: Proof of age, i.e., birth certificate, drivers license, etc. must be brought to the competition by all contestants. This proof must be supplied upon request in the event of a protest regarding age.

COMPETITION PERFORMANCE DIVISIONS
BALLET
Routines must consist of ballet or pointe technique. All ballet entries judged together in ballet category only (classical, modern, abstract, and character). IMPORTANT RULE! ENTRIES MUST WEAR BALLET OR POINTE SHOES TO BE ENTERED IN THE BALLET CATEGORY.
JAZZ
A routine that demonstrates jazz technique, utilizing up-tempo music. All entries judged together in JAZZ category only. contemporary A mix of jazz styles with heavy emphasis on modern & ballet technique. All entries judged together in CONTEMPORARY category only.
LYRICAL JAZZ
A routine that demonstrates lyrical technique. All entries judged together in lyrical jazz category only. tap A routine comprised of tap technique. All entries judged together in tap category only.
OPEN
A routine that demonstrates any dance style or combination of dance styles (ethnic, acro-gymnastics, ballroom, novelty, clogging, character, etc.). All entries judged together in open category only.
HIP-HOP
A routine utilizing hip-hop or street-type moves. All entries judged together in hip-hop category only.
MUSICAL THEATRE
A routine utilizing Broadway or theatre dance styles. All entries judged together in musical theatre category only. Singing is permitted in musical theatre category only. (Professional microphones for vocals are not provided).
SHOWCASE
This is a non-competitive category for those teachers who wish to have their numbers perform on stage for critique only. No awards. Regular competition fees apply.
All fees are due with entry forms. Please submit one (1) check for all competition fees. All entries are final and non-refundable. No exceptions. NO CHANGES in competition entries TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO COMPETITION. NO CHANGES PERMITTED AT THE VENUE! NO CASH REFUNDS will be issued under any circumstances

D2M reserves the right to add additional competition days or change the competition venue due to unforeseen circumstances.

CD LABELS AND COMPETITION ORDER WILL BE MAILED OUT ONE WEEK PRIOR TO EVENT.
Judges’ score sheets, critique CDs and music CDs may be picked up at a designated time on Sunday following the competition. These items will be given to the teacher only! Decisions by the judges are final!!! D2M is not responsible for any CDs that are not picked up. Those who make it to the D2M SHOWDOWN may pick up these items at a designated time after the competition.
AWARD SYSTEM
All entries will be adjudicated by three (3) judges. Awards will be presented based on the combined scores listed below:
Super Star Award: 295 to 300

★ ★ ★ ★ : 260 to 279
★ ★ ★ : 240 to 259
★ ★ : 210 to 239
All Super Star to three (3) star award winners will be eligible for the 2012 Final SHOWDOWN in Las Vegas that will feature acts who qualified at both WCDE and D2M regional events!
JUDGES
At Dance2theMax, we select some of the most knowledgeable and skilled professionals in the dance industry! A great deal of work goes into creating and preparing your numbers for the stage and we realize that you expect and deserve quality judges. D2M employs a mix of the finest dance educators and dance professionals who are well versed in all genres of dance. All of our judges are also aware of the various skill levels of ALL ages.
SCORING SYSTEM
Technique: 50 points
Performance: 20 points
Choreography & Musicality: 20 points
Overall Appearance: 10 points
All ties will be broken, first by technique score, second by performance score, and third by a judges’ poll.
In addition to the STAR adjudication awards, a competitive 1st, 2nd or 3rd Place Award will be given to the entries with the highest scores in the Starz, Mini, Junior, Teen, Senior and Pro-Am divisions. A plaque & free entry into the the FINAL SHOWDOWN in Las Vegas will be awarded for the following:

Each of our 6 regional competition cities will feature the exciting D2M SHOWDOWN! It will consist of the top 10 highest scoring studios of the competition in each age division. (Starz, Mini, Junior, Teen, & Senior). *Pro/Am not eligible. A studio can only be represented once in each age division.
All numbers in the D2M SHOWDOWN will be judged again and cash awards will be given to the top 3 highest scoring acts in each age division. (Solos & Duo/Trio’s are not eligible for the D2M SHOWDOWN)
D2M REGIONAL SHOWDOWN AWARDS

ENTERTAINMENT AWARD
Judges will choose the most entertaining number of the competition. Winner will receive an award plaque.
